Wunderman Thompson CEO Lee Leggett said Muncaster’s name came up during the recruitment process that followed Michael Godwin’s exit last year, including searching for new candidates outside the agency.
“The final decision to appoint internally is a real testament to Nick’s strong leadership of our Melbourne team and clients for the past six years, and the amazing job he has done so far. For anyone who has worked alongside Nick, you will know for yourself how talented he is. Our Melbourne office is in great hands,” said Leggett.
Muncaster himself has been in the organisation for over six years, including as GM of the former JWT’s Melbourne office.

Sarah Watford is in as business director. She was previously with the agency in late 2019 as account director, but exited for family reasons. Her PR experience came from stints with Maxted Thomas, Publicity PR, and Mango Communications.
Madison Hughes signed up to a PR consultant role. She recently completed an internship at the agency and was recruited after graduating BA Communications/Marketing from UniOtago.
The hires came out of increased business at Eleven and TBWA/NZ.

The move will see Wunderman Thompson’s services augmented with WTC’s market capabilities designed for online/store retail, B2B, D2C, and social media, such as business support, an e-commerce platform, and third-party integration. The WTC staff will also move into Wunderman Thompson Australia’s Melbourne office.
WTC chief commerce officer Geoff Smeaton will report directly to Wunderman Thompson Australia CEO Lee Leggett.
